Announcing Jefferson City CrossFit’s April MVP! Adam is approaching his year mark to joining JCCF. And what a year it has been. He walked in the beginning of one month and said, I need to pay for 5 months of membership. I need to get back on track, and feel JCCF is the place to help me do that. We were definitely excited to have him aboard. He is one of the most motivating positive people you may meet and is a perfect example of showing what CrossFit can do for you even outside of the gym. You may see him videoing himself after a brutal workout for the motivational lesson of the day. He is the definition of never giving up, and recently learned after coming back from an injury that no matter what you can get a great workout in. The trainers at Jefferson City CrossFit will take the time and care with you to do so. We are thankful to have him as part of our community. Congratulations and thank you, Adam!
Name: Adam Stark
Age: 29
Family: Wife, Brie, 2 Kids, Hayden, and Londyn, and Nolan is on the way
Occupation: Realtor & Consultant
How long have you been CrossFitting: Since May 2013
First memory at JCCF: I remember the first WOD I ever did that included pull-ups, A LOT of pull-ups, and Coach Sam suggested I grab a band for assistance. I thought I was too strong for bands and didn’t know how to kip and it wasn’t long after the first round I was yelling for Sam to please grab me a band. The real first memory was a lesson that everyone at CrossFit will learn sooner or later. Check your Ego at the door!
Pullups or Bench Press and Why?: Pull-ups all day! I love me some bench press but bench press is for people who want to look strong, pull ups are for people who are strong! Plus the kind of workout you get from doing pull-ups will whip your whole upper body into better physical condition. I love em.
Favorite Weightlifting movement and Why? I love power cleans, something about the movement. Once you have it down they become a beautiful thing to watch and perform.
If there was one thing that you can say CrossFit does for you, what would it be?: CrossFit gave me my confidence & Certainty back to be an athletic competitor. The strength and conditioning you get from CrossFit translates into higher levels of performance in everything you do. Without Confidence & Certainty you will never live your life at it’s highest level!
Favorite CrossFit Shoe: Nanos, but only because they are the only ones I know of! I don’t own a pair of “real” CrossFit shoes though so my opinion is pure perception.
Airdyne or Run and Why? Run but only if I’m outdoors. I hate treadmills. Running allows you to escape and clear your mind while taking in the surroundings with a new found appreciation for the world around you. I can’t really explain it but you see things differently when you’re running.
If you could give any advice for a person new to CrossFit, what would it be?: Be ok with where you are and be honest in your assessment. Don’t worry about where others are at in regards to their level of fitness, just focus on you and your goals. Track your results and be proud of your improvements no matter how big or small they may be.
Goals in the future with your CrossFit adventure: Right now my biggest goal is getting healthy and getting back into the full swing of things which the trainers have been amazing at helping me do. I would love to complete a couple more competitions before years end.
What is one thing that people who know you, may not “know” about you? One thing that people who know me probably don’t know about me is that I practice meditation EVERY DAY! In fact I bet a lot of people who know me don’t know that. Meditation is amazing for stress relief and getting clear. I meditate 30 min every morning and 15 min every afternoon and have been for about a year now. The experience of Life can be chaotic and if you don’t take time everyday to get grounded and focused you can’t perform at the highest levels possible for you. It’s life changing!
Favorite past time outside of CrossFit: Honestly, I love just being a husband & father so spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do. I’ve also recently picked up swimming and really enjoy challenging myself in the water.
Favorite Food: I love Bananas and Peanut Butter.
Favorite Beverage: Water hands down. I drink it with every meal
Is there any other additional comments you would like to share? Jefferson City CrossFit and the all the coaches have helped me reinvent my physical body as well as strengthen my mind. CrossFit will test you and push your upper limits beyond where you what you would ever do on your own. There is an atmosphere of positive people who have decided the easy road is a road the successful can’t travel. We show up do the work and enjoy the results. I keep my YMCA membership for the pool but I will never participate in the typical gym routine ever again. I found my home and I am proud to call JCCF my friends.
