That one time Amy and Nikki showed up to do some CrossFit to train for the MR340 boat race! Absolutely outstanding and the rest was history.

Amy is an uplifting soul in our JCCF community. When we were quarantined and the gym was closed, she would be part of the Rooster crew waiting patiently for the Zoom class to begin. She would cheer people just as much through the video screen as she did through the regular classes.

She would modify with whatever she could find to simulate that movement of the day! She may even have had her toddler on her back for pushups a time or two for class. Amy is a breath of fresh air and makes some of the most Interesting Cast Iron skillet recipes to date!!

We are grateful to have her as part of our CrossFit Community and can’t wait to see the adventures she already has planned for her future. Did she say solo MR340?!!!

Name: Amy Rose Harrell
Age: 33
Family: Tom and James (3)

Occupation: Nurse Practitioner

When and how did you get started with us? August 2019 had one month before the MR 340 and thought that I really needed a kick in the pants to build up some strength ( but race for post poned so I got an entire year to train)

Favorite Lift: I don’t really have a fav, but deadlifts are fun bc you can go heavy
Favorite Workout: anything with at least 3 combos lifting/running/ rig I think these CAN BE the most intense and what I think CF is

Favorite Meal: buffalo chicken casserole ( making it now!)
Favorite Beverage: water or Sustain!

Funniest memory at the box: We were doing box jump burpees in a team workout on a Saturday (which I never go to bc I live out of town) There were only 15… But it felt like 30… And then on number 15 I crashed and burned and injured my leg!! But all is well now. And I make sure I jump w proper form and pay attention! (The fact that this.is the funniest memory…. Amy!!!)

What class time do you usually attend and what is the favorite part about that class? Since February have been doing Rooster Crew! It is great to start the day out with so much sweat and encouraging words! Even though sometimes I’m still yawning and then take a nap on a picnic bench before work….

What is your favorite JCCF Tradition/Community Event? I love the hero WODs and try to complete them on my own of I can’t make it to the box
What is one thing that most people do not know about you? It just depends if you know me or not. I’m crazy and do way to many things. And go to bed too late- just ask my Husband.

Tell us some about your journey, greatest accomplishments: Oh man! I have always wanted to do CrossFit. But I knew once I started I couldn’t stop..I lifted in HS in zero hour class before school (back to my beginnings) and started running in 2012 when asked by a CO worker to join her on a Half marathon. Little did I know this started our deep friendship and challenges to each other!! 2014 we did 3 marathons that year and in 2015 convinced her to do a half iron man together. Then in 2020 we completed the MR340 together!! Not sure what we will do together next we were thinking orienteering with adventure racing! But for sure my greatest accomplishments are my deepening relationship with Jesus, my strong marriage and my family and Friends
If you could give any advice for a person new to CrossFit, what would it be?:

Do not over do yourself. Work on the mechanics and the weight will come! You will surprise yourself!

Please list two future goals. 6 months and One year:Workout: Well I just completed a 1 year goal. 6 mo will probably do another marathon and then complete MR340 solo in 2021. ( WOW!!!)

Personal Growth: slow down in life, continue to declutter my house, make sure to enjoy every day for what it is.Favorite Quote:”Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother to be better than your counterparts or predecessors.Try to be better than yourself”-William Faulkner

Anything else you wish to share that your heart desires:

Surround yourself with those that encourage and do not bring you down. Everyone is on their own personal journey. We can learn from everyone!

Amy, You are a true inspiration!
