Announcing JCCF’s June MVP, meet Jared Kesel!

“Begin with the End in Mind.”

I am inspired daily, every single time I get to see him in class. He is impacting more people and more deserving than he knows. When I got to tell him face to face, his reaction was priceless, and surely nailed down that he earned it. We couldn’t be more excited to have him as part of our day crew and afternoon crew. One of the most kind hearted fathers, spouses, and person you may meet.

Name: Jared Robert Kesel
Age: 35
Family: Married to my beautiful wife Dawn Kesel and 3 awesome kids.  Sarah is 5 and starting kindergarten this year.  Patrick and Olivia are 2 and always keeping us on our toes.

Occupation: Network Administrator for Missouri Legislative Research and Senate

When and how did you get started with us? I was doing some running on our street in our neighbor hood.  My neighbors Eric and Liz Volmer saw me and invited me to a Saturday morning crossfit class.  Eric was awesome to work with.  I know I slowed him down a bunch but he was happy to work out with me at my level.  They are great support and neighbors.  Natalie was my coach for on ramp and that started my beginning to CrossFit in June of 2017.

How long have you been CrossFitting?:  June 1st 2018 was my 1 year anniversary at JCCF.

Favorite Lift: Back squat
Favorite Workout: Something with rowing or deadlifts

Least Favorite Workout: Kelly

Favorite Meal: BBQ Chicken

Favorite Beverage: Unsweet Tea

Funniest memory at the box: Me getting tangled up in bands trying to use them to help with pull-ups.  Ryan saved me.

What class time do you usually attend and what is the favorite part about that class?  I usually attend 5:30.  My hours fluctuate from time to time.  I love attending the noon class when Im off work.

What is the wallpaper on your phone right now?  The main thing is a saying “Be Better Not Bitter”

What is your favorite JCCF Tradition/Community Event? Our family loves the Christmas party and the Anniversary glamor party. (JCCF Gala)

What is your favorite candy bar? Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

What is one thing that most people do not know about you?  I actually love working on old cars.  My one and only hobby is restoring our 1969 Chevelle. Its almost completely disassembled right now.

If you won $10,000 Dollars what would be your first purchase?  Dinner for my family at CC’s City Broiler in Columbia.

If you could be any animal in the world, what would it be and why? A elephant.  Always loved elephants since I was a kid.

Tell us some about your journey, greatest accomplishments:  Honestly my biggest accomplishment is just staying.  I know it sounds silly, but my goal for the first year is to create the habit of working out on a weekly basis.  I always would start working out but it would usually fizzle away.  But the JCCF community has helped me accomplish the goal of working out on a weekly basis.

If you could give any advice for a person new to CrossFit, what would it be?:  Just don’t be afraid to ask coaches for advice or help.  Don’t be afraid of the word “scale.”  Also I recommend the book Chop Wood Carry Waterby Joshua MedCalf.

Please list two future goals. 6 months and One year: Get under 300 pounds in 6 months.  Be able to do a un assisted pull up in a year.

Favorite Quote: Begin with the end in mind.
