Announcing Jefferson City CrossFit’s January 2014 MVP. This fine gentleman has been with us for just over 6 months. He is our comedian, and a day won’t go by that he doesn’t make someone gut laugh at the gym. He shows up, works hard every day that he is here. He is determined and this determination inspires others. He still opts for a snow cone machine at the box. He brought “pancakes” to the gym the morning of Christmas Eve, and all we could do was smile. Let’s just say the kids had a Merry Christmas Eve Breakfast. Congratulations Brian, and Thank You for being a part of our community.

Name: Brian Phillips

Age: 41

Family: 12 year old son (Ethan), 6 year old daughter (Kenley), mom(Charlotte), sister (Julie), and brother (Tony)

How long have you been CrossFitting?: 6 months

What is your greatest accomplishment at the box?: Showing up!

Do you have a favorite memory at the box?:

Too many to list and probably shouldn’t list them to protect the identity of others! Besides the working out, I’d say it’s the bantering and laughs that really make my day with the 9 am crew and the incident with the Skittles is a favorite moment for sure!

Favorite weightlifting movement and Why?: Strict Press, it’s the only thing I consider myself decent at lol.

Deadlift or Power Clean and Why?: Deadlift. I like the way it works my backside.

Wall balls or Burpees and Why?: Can I say neither?? Picking one it would be wall balls and I have no idea why.

Running or Double Unders and Why?: Double unders because I feel myself getting better at them. I hope I can say running one day but I hate running right now.

Favorite Shoes to work out in: Under Armour.

If you could give any advice for a person new to CrossFit, what would it be?: Continue to show up and stick with it. It’s addicting and it can help you live a better life! I joined because I wanted to develop a healthier lifestyle. My father passed away at the age of 52 and his father died at age 52…..hope to change that pattern and live longer to see my kids grow up.

3 Goals in the future with your CrossFit adventure:

Continue to meet personal goals with the weighted movements, increase my endurance in the wods/running, and be in a competition one day. (we are holding you to signing up for your first competition 😉

What is one thing that people who know you, may not “know” about you?:

That I wanted to be a high school coach.

Favorite past time outside of CrossFit: my kids and their sports.

Favorite Food: Yen Ching’s Crab Rangoon

Favorite Beverage: Depends what time of day it is……

Favorite Quote: I have two….

Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.
